As with any vitamin supplements, it is wise to speak with your doctor before taking glutamine supplements. Glutamine is an amino acid produced by the body, and it serves many functions in keeping the body healthy. For instance, it helps the body fight fatigue, and it assists the white blood cells to fight off illness and disease.

A lack of glutamine is not a good thing, because the body will break down muscles to get it. Although you can get glutamine in high protein foods such as fish, meat, nuts, and beans, you may need to take glutamine supplements if you are feeling chronically run-down. Again, check with your physician to rule out any underlying medical problems you may have that could be causing your fatigue.

Glutamine Supplements for Optimal Health

When the body does not get the proper amount of vitamins and minerals, as well as amino acids, things begin to stop working as well. A good portion of the American public does not eat a balanced diet, which is high in fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and fish, nuts, dairy products, and limited fats. The result is fatigue, obesity, loss of lean muscle, and diminished cognitive skills.

The answer is not to pop glutamine supplements with the idea that doing so will solve the problem. A total approach to living a healthy lifestyle is necessary, and this means eating well, exercising, getting enough rest, and managing stress. Supplements can help us get the nutrients we need, but it is best to strive for a healthy diet on a daily basis.
