Choosing lactose free supplements is a matter of great necessity for a section of the population who are known to be lactose intolerant. Many of us are tempted to overlook special medical considerations if we aren't suffering obviously life threatening symptoms. But constantly bombarding your body with substances that it has a hard time dealing with can have a very detrimental effect on your health over time. Symptoms of lactose intolerance include gas, bloating and diarrhea.

If you are lactose intolerant you should make every effort to ensure that no lactose finds its way into your digestive tract, even to the point of choosing lactose free supplements. This is now not as difficult as you might imagine. Lactose intolerance is by no means an unusual or rare condition, so manufacturers are realizing that by ignoring the issue of lactose intolerance they may be losing out on a large potential market.

Choosing Lactose Free Supplements

Lactose is a simple sugar that is an integral part of milk and any milk products. If you are lactose intolerant you must consider that many manufactured foods could contain lactose. It should be standard policy for you to read all food labels very carefully before you buy, or at least before you go ahead and eat. Once you have tracked down sources of foods that are lactose free, including lactose free supplements, you will be able to relax, knowing that you are not going to make yourself ill on a regular basis.

Remember that it is possible to become lactose intolerant temporarily. If you are taking certain drugs, they may interrupt your production of lactase and thus trigger lactose intolerance which will ease once you stop taking your medication. It will be necessary to pick a source of lactose free supplements for the duration of your treatment, and possibly for a little while afterwards until your system returns to normal.
