Natural skin care products use natural plants, fruits, herbs, and other things that occur in nature to repair and maintain healthy skin. Many of the ingredients are things that have been used for centuries for their healing effects and for the care of the skin. The use of these natural skin care products is resurgent, even gaining growing acceptance in the traditional medical community.

Notable Products

One notable natural skin care product is tea tree oil, which was originally obtained by Western civilization from the Australian aborigines, circa 1770. The oil is generally obtained by steaming and steeping the leaves of the Melaleuca tree, like tea bags. The oil is used to treat everything from minor cuts and bruises, insect bites, and athlete's foot to acne.

Products (particularly creams) containing alpha lipoic acid are said to restore radiance to the skin and to enhance muscle tone. Alpha lipoic acid is a sulfurous fatty acid that is considered the universal antioxidant. It is obtained from food sources such as spinach, liver, and brewer's yeast.

Lastly, most skin care professionals recommend a cream or serum that contains a natural form of vitamin C, commonly labeled L-absorbic, as opposed to a derivative form. Products containing vitamin C are believed to promote younger looking skin by stimulating the production of collagen. With regular uses, skin also tend to appear smoother and firmer.
