Nutritional Bars

Nutritional bars run the gamut, from low carb supplements to protein products to a combination of carbs, proteins, and fats. You don't have to go far in your daily travels to come across these meal replacement bars. Even the local grocery store carries nutritional bars that are meant to boost energy levels by providing the person with the necessary vitamins and minerals, as well as amino acids and essential fatty acids paramount to good health.

Although it can be confusing trying to decipher which nutritional bars are better than others, a good rule of thumb is to stick to bars that contain little to no saturated fat, a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals, and of course some protein and carbohydrates. If you are on the low carb kick, you will obviously want to stick to bars that are high in protein and low in carbohydrates and fats.

Nutritional Bars and Calories

Remember, if you are trying to lose weight, some bars are high in calories, which obviously defeats the purpose if you are dieting. Always read the side bar to learn what the caloric intake is for that bar, so you can gauge if it is worth eating. There are some great bars on the market that are low in calories, yet taste satisfying and delicious.

Another point to keep in mind is this; if you are cutting calories, you don't want to drop your caloric intake too low. Consuming too few calories can have an adverse effect, as your body will think it is in starvation mode, and it will hoard fat. This concept is surprising to many people, but it is a true fact that should be avoided when you are dieting.
