Vitamins And Minerals

The human body needs vitamins and minerals to function properly. They do many things that keep us in working motion, from regulating metabolism to converting fats and carbohydrates into energy, as well as assisting with cell regeneration. Without these nutrients, we would become malnourished, and every system in our bodies would begin to fail.

Most of us can get the vitamins and minerals, as well as the amino acids and essential fatty acids we need if we ate a well-rounded diet on a daily basis. The problem with this is that the majority of people do not eat properly, either because they lack time or because they do not have the means to buy nutritious food. While supplements can certainly help fill in the gaps, they should not be used as a substitute for healthy eating.

The Importance of Vitamins and Minerals

In addition to helping our bodies function properly, vitamins and minerals also give us energy. When we are lacking in certain nutrients, the first sign may be a feeling of sluggishness and fatigue that does not go away, even with proper sleep. When we are tired all the time, our immune system cannot do its job properly, and we succumb to illness and disease more readily.

Therefore, it is essential that we get the proper vitamins and minerals we need on a daily basis, so that we are better able to stave off health problems down the road. If you are not sure which supplements will work best for you, it makes sense to talk with your doctor. Remember, all pregnant women should be taking prenatal vitamins that are designed specifically to meet the needs of their own bodies and their developing fetuses.
