Obesity is a major problem in the United States. According to current statistics, over 60 million adults are overweight. For a person to be considered overweight, a person must be more than 20 pounds overweight, or have a body mass index (BMI) higher than 27. Along with the increased weight of so many people has come an increase in ways to lose that weight.

One of the more popular methods of weight loss is the diet pill. Individuals are looking more and more to medicine to provide a way for increased weight loss. In the past few years, however, the drugs that have been on the market for weight loss have come under scrutiny for not being safe. Many of these weight loss drugs contained the same ingredient: ephedra.

Most diet pills provide increased energy by way of some ingredient. Before recent changes in regulations that have banned the sale of products with ephedra, it was this ingredient that provided the boost of energy found in many diet drugs. However, studies found that ephedra could cause serious health problems, including heart problems and even strokes. This forced the FDA to ban its sale and use in dietary products--and it made companies to rethink their weight loss products.

Leptoprin to the Rescue
The desire for a weight-loss pill that can do its job without ephedra has led to new products being marketed to the dieting population. One of the drugs that is receiving lots of attention is Leptoprin. And, according to its manufacturer, it can effectively do the job without the use of ephedra.

Leptoprin is an over-the-counter pill that can be found in most drug stores. According to the manufacturer, it uses a blend of herbs to increase weight loss in those individuals that are severely obese. At the same time, the user gets the boost of energy that people desire.

Reports have shown that the mixture of herbs in Leptoprin prevents gastric emptying in the human body. This change in bodily function makes the user feel fuller longer, and causes him or her to eat less. This, of course, is the reason Leptoprin helps the individual user to lose weight.

As with anything that has positives, there are some negatives to using Leptoprin. One of the major drawbacks can be seen even before using the product. Leptoprin is very expensive to buy. For a 90-day supply of Leptoprin, the consumer will pay about $150.00. Of course, as with most drugs, there are generic versions which cost less.

In addition, it is recommended that Leptoprin only be used by those people who are truly overweight. The product is strong and should not be used to simply lose five or 10 pounds. There are other ways to lose a little weight so that you look better in a bathing suit. Leptoprin, on the other hand, is reserved for those who truly need to lose massive amounts of weight.
