Chronic Yeast Infections

It's not just because they can be painful and very inconvenient that you should seek a solution to chronic yeast infections. When unchecked, the situation can develop quite alarmingly. The organism that lives in your gut, called candida albicans is responsible for chronic yeast infections. When something happens to tip the flora in your digestive tract out of harmony (and there are many possibilities), candida quickly gets out of hand and causes problems such as yeast infections.

If the situation is allowed to continue, Candida can get a still stronger foothold and your health problems can multiply. Some people who have suffered from yeast infections for years without doing anything to combat the problem can find themselves incapacitated. Muscle weakness and memory problems are just two of the unhappy possibilities.

Causes of Chronic Yeast Infections

Chronic yeast infections are often the result of taking antibiotics and/or the contraceptive pill. They can also be triggered by the IUD or cap (diaphragm). Yeast infections will always be exacerbated by the wrong foods in your diet. The chief culprits are sweets and carbohydrates (starches). It is vital to restrict these items, and if possible completely abstain from them, at least until you make some headway in combating candida and any manifestations of your chronic yeast infection.

Using probiotics makes a lot of sense for any degree of yeast infection. These are supplements of organisms that create a healthy environment in your gut and combat the overgrowth of candida. With vaginal yeast infections you can also use probiotics as a pessary for speedy relief of symptoms. You can use probiotics for as long as you like. In fact, some people like to use them prophylactically as they provide protection against a lot of food and environmental issues.
