Many doctors would agree that there is a connection between endometriosis and diet. If you suffer from this chronic disease, your doctor may recommend that you eat a low-estrogen/low-saturated fat diet. Foods containing pesticides and preservatives should also be avoided, as should meats that contain hormones. When choosing chicken, pork, or beef, look for labels that state the ingredients, including the use of antibiotics, hormones, additives, and tranquilizers that may have been fed to the animals prior to slaughter.

All of these ingredients are not good for your health in general, but can exacerbate your symptoms if you have endometriosis. As a general rule, packaged foods are more likely to contain artificial ingredients, preservatives, dyes, and chemicals that can bring on a host of problems in healthy people. Some additives have been linked to cancer, so it is always wise to strive for a diet that is free of such edible contaminants.

Don't forget to take into consideration the possibility of airborne contaminants, or waste that affects soil and water supplies. When you go grocery shopping, try to stick to organic fruits and vegetables, hormone-free meats and dairy products, and limit your fish to those that are not known for their mercury composition. The Endometriosis and Diet Connection

The USDA has an information line that you can call to find out if the meat you buy has been injected with any hormones. If you are suffering from endometriosis, the last thing you want to do is consume meats that are heavily laden with hormones. An organic diet is best, and many doctors will recommend that their patients stay away from all packaged foods that are high in salt, sugar, fat, and artificial ingredients.
