Home Remedies For Yeast Infections

One of the most common and well known home remedies for yeast infections is live yogurt. The remedy consists of both eating it and using it as a cream on the affected part. It's effective because it contains lactobacillus acidophilus, one of the most effective organisms to counter the candida yeast that is the most common cause of human yeast infections.

Probiotics and Yeast

In fact, a highly effective solution for all yeast infections is a probiotic supplement, which is a source of organisms that normally make up the natural flora of the gut. Acidophilus is just one of them. Several different ones are often also used as probiotic supplements. Sometimes, a combination of more than one is recommended. An added benefit of probiotics is that they enhance immune system activity, making them doubly useful.

Other home remedies include certain essential oils that can be very useful for killing off undesirable organisms including yeasts and fungi. They can also aid in supporting the immune system. Australian tea tree oil is one example. This is the most effective topical antibacterial and antifungal known, and the best thing about it is that it doesn't damage the skin or tissue. It is gentle on humans, but tough on pathogens.

A similar essential oil is oregano. While having perhaps a more pleasant aroma, oregano is not quite as effective as tea tree at killing off undesirable organisms. Other options include herbal teas that can be very effective. Green tea is good for candida and yeast infections, as is taheebo tea. There are a number of other herbs that can be used as home remedies for yeast infections.
