Air BearWritten by Norene Anderson Some Air Bear replacement filters have a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating of eight and others are a MERV 11. The higher MERV rating is the more efficient filter. When buying a replacement filter, look for media with a large capacity to hold particles. Also, look for a filter with a design for low pressure drop that will not interfere with the central cooling and heating system. The frequency of filter replacement will vary from one home to the next. Even homes with pets will require different schedules of filter change. One pet that sheds a lot, such as a cat or Cavalier King Charles spaniel, will need the filter changed more often than a home with a poodle or other non-shed pets. Pet dander is the source of allergies for thousands of people. Some people even experience allergic symptoms with the non-shed pets. High Ratings for Air BearMold and fungi are more top offenders in the allergy department. An Air Bear filter with a MERV 11 rating will capture these tiny microscopic particles. If someone is allergic to mold, it does not take very much exposure to the mold spores to trigger a major reaction. For an asthmatic, this can be a serious encounter. Mold must be in a humid environment to thrive. Make sure exhaust fans are working properly in bathrooms. To remove the humidity, run the fan for at least ten minutes after the shower or tub bath is finished. Once you have a growth of mold, it takes special effort to kill the growth. The first thing is to get rid of the moisture. Locate the source. Mold has been found in ductwork, air conditioner coils, and in the filtering system. Always use a filter designed to kill the mold spores. Repair any water leaks immediately to avoid mold getting started.
