MERV 12 filters are designed to remove dust, mold spores, pollen, pet dander, dust mite particles, and other tiny particulates from 1.8 to 20 microns in size. These are removed at the rate of 90 percent to as high as 97 percent. For the average allergy sufferer, this means complete relief from the allergic response to most pollutants.

The MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating is a standardized method of comparing one filter with another. The rating is established by the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers) and is based on specific test guidelines. Polluted indoor air will cycle and circulate the air over and over spreading the contaminates throughout the home until it is removed by some type of filtration system. Sometimes it is not an option to open the windows and let the house ventilate.

More about MERV 12 Filters

Filters are the best way to trap and remove the harmful pollutants in the air. This can be with a central heating and cooling system or it can be with freestanding filtering units. Either way, a high ASHRAE rating such as a MERV 12 will clear the air of most allergens and pollutants.

There are many types and styles of MERV 12 filters to consider. The right one for you is the one that will make your home free of the allergens that cause distress for those with breathing difficulties. Every pollutant trapped is one less to be inhaled. The 90-plus percent efficiency means the air is almost totally free of contaminants.
