Bathroom WindowsWritten by Norene Anderson Bathroom windows in older homes are sometimes located in places where they are just not practical. Quite often, the older windows are framed in wood and the moisture from the tub will eventually cause the wood to soften and even to rot. Replacing the window with glass blocks is an option. Another option would be to replace the wood frame with a vinyl frame that resists water. The benefit of bathroom windows is immeasurable. The natural light adds a dimension to the room that no artificial light can duplicate. It is particularly beneficial when it is possible to place a mirror opposing the window to capture and reflect the natural light. This increases the intensity of the light and creates an open feeling in an otherwise small space. Things to Consider about Bathroom WindowsBathroom windows are no longer just plain glass in a dull frame. There are bordered windows with stained glass designs to match any color scheme or theme you desire. The pattern in the stained glass can be coordinated with designs painted onto the sink and toilet. The theme can be carried out in a border matching blended wallpaper. The decorating possibilities are endless. When considering changes in a bathroom window, be sure to consider what it will do to the appearance of the house from the outside. It is easy to get caught up on the remodeling of the inside and forget that part of it will be seen externally. The flow of the house should be smooth. That means the windows should complement the architecture of the house. If the window is such that it is the first and only thing seen from the outside, you may need to consider another option.
