Jewelry Cleaners

Ultrasonic jewelry cleaners come in professional and home models. The home models that are made for consumers are mini versions of the professional cleaners. They use ultrasonic waves in a cleaning solution to remove fingerprints, oil, and other dirt, and keep your gold and gemstones sparkling.

These jewelry cleaners are great for cleaning stones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires, amethysts, citrine, and created gemstones. They are also best used on karat gold jewelry. Be aware, though, that ultrasound vibrations can loosen gems. And when using the ultrasonic cleaners, make sure items are not touching each other.

You must never use the ultrasonic cleaner on porous stones, or stones that are not translucent, such as pearls, opals, and onyx. These stones should not be cleaned with an abrasive or ammonia based cleaner either. Also, be sure to check stones for a tight mounting after removing them from the ultrasonic cleaner.

Types of Jewelry Cleaners

If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, other jewelry cleaners work well too. Commercial jewelry cleaning solution, or a small amount of dish washing liquid with water, works just as well. You can also use a soft cloth or brush to remove any fingerprints.
