Ultrasonic cleaning equipment is perhaps the most common application for ultrasonics. High-frequency sound waves applied this way can remove grease, dirt, paint, and even rust from surfaces including metal, ceramics, glass, and crystal. Different industries use ultrasonic cleaning, including electronics, precision instruments, automotive, metal, and aircraft industries. Cavitation is the formation and implosion of microscopic bubbles. This is what accomplishes the cleaning. The bubbles are filled with gas and vapor, in a solution irradiated with ultrasound. Collapsing the bubbles emits huge amounts of heat and energy that act like scrub brushes, cleaning contaminants off the surfaces of parts being cleaned.

Ultrasonic cleaning equipment utilizes a variety of different cleaning solutions, including water, detergents, and solvents. It is effective, efficient, and inexpensive for applications where extreme cleanliness is desired, perhaps even required. Ultrasonic cleaning equipment will clean the surface of parts immersed in it, including any crevices or recesses. It also works well on parts with complex shapes.

Researchers agree that the science of ultrasonics is still in its infancy. In addition to cleaning applications, ultrasonics are used in a variety of other applications in electronics, the medical field, etc. In time, scientists will fully tap the potential of this amazing technology.
