You may have never realized it before, but there are many accessories you can get for your ceiling fan. Whether you're looking at lighting fixtures, controls, downrods, mounting hardware, caps or more, you have a lot of creative choices. Ceiling fans have come quite a long way in recent decades. If you have never purchased a fan, or haven't purchased one in a while, you're in for a pleasant surprise.

Controlling Your Fan

One of the biggest advances in fans is in the area of controls. Your ceiling fan will come with a standard control. However, don't think you're limited to just that. You can go out and get a wall-mount control or a remote control. The more you're willing to pay, the more features you'll get. For instance, one modern wall-mount has buttons that control six speeds, forward, reverse and full-range light dimming.

Some controls will also allow you to set your fan to a feature called Fan Minder. This is great for sleeping. With this feature activated, your fan will slowly decrease speed over a period of time. You may know how it is to turn the fan on high because you're warm when you first go to bed, only to wake up at two or three in the morning, freezing and knowing that you have to get out of bed to turn the fan down.

Another great feature that some controls have is the Light Minder. This is good for energy saving. When the feature is on, the lights will automatically turn off after two hours. It's also nice if you have kids or a spouse who constantly forgets to turn off the lights.
