Every ceiling fan will come with all the basic parts to get you up and running. You'll have your motor, your blades, your lighting if you choose a fan with lighting, one or two downrods, possibly a pivot ball and certainly a fan pull and a controller. However, don't think that you're stuck with those. The ceiling fan world has many accessories and parts that you can play around with.

Dealing with Ceiling Fan Parts

You'll obviously be concerned about mounting your fan. It's very important that you know the correct mounting style for your room. Any ceiling fan should always be about seven to eight feet from the ground. Therefore, if your ceiling is taller than that, you'll need a downrod. Most ceiling fans come with four and/or six inch downrods standard. If you need something longer than that, you'll have to purchase it separately.

If your ceiling is sloped, you'll need to use a pivot ball. This is something that also comes standard with most fans, usually for up to 34 degrees of a slope. Any slope bigger than that will require you to buy separately. If you end up purchasing a Hunter fan, you'll be glad to know that most come standard with a 3-Position Mounting System, perfect for all mounting needs.

You also might want to check out controls or remotes other than the one your fan came with. Most fans come with a wall unit. However, if you want to be able to control your fan from anywhere in the room, primarily while sitting or lying down, pick up a remote control. You can adjust the speed, direction, light and dimming. Some controls even allow you to set your lights to turn off automatically after a certain amount of time.
