Light Switch Covers

Whether you're installing a new ceiling fan, light fixture or both, you'll probably need a light switch cover. Your fan or fixture should come complete with one. However, there may be times when you want a switch with a dimmer, but your fixture comes with a simple on/off type system. If you want to control the fan speeds and dim the lights all from one panel, you might need to go out and buy a new cover.

A Dash of Color

One of the cutest ways to add creative accents to any room is to get specialized light switch covers. As you probably know, most covers come in a semi-shiny white. However, if you look online, you'll find that many major brand names also offer different colors. You might want yellow for a bright kitchen, red for an elegant dining room or lilac for your guest room.

It's generally suggested that you don't paint your light switch cover while it's still on the wall. Over time, this can lead to sticking or stopping of the switch or dimmers. If you want the cover to match your walls, buy that color or take it off to paint it. You can also order unique light switches. For a child's room, you can get Superman, Hello Kitty, Barbie, Winnie the Pooh and more.

For other rooms, maybe you want a paisley print, plaid, some flowers or something fun and colorful by Mary Engelbreit. No matter what color or design you choose, make sure it will fit what your fixture requires. You might have two switches, two dimmers, a touch pad, a dimmer with an on/off switch or some other combination.
