Deck Railing PlansWritten by Donald Sparacin Deck railing plans are an essential step in the process of building a deck. With them you will have sturdy posts upon which to attach the railings. Without them and you will find yourself trying to make the railing sturdy by means other than what actually works. Don't leave deck railings as an afterthought to your project, plan for them in the beginning. Deck Railing Plans Will Insure SuccessA successful deck project will begin with detailed deck railing plans. Remember, the part of the deck that will be visible to the world will be the railings, not the deck. If you plan to make the railings exciting and dramatic the whole project will be made more successful. Begin by searching online, in magazines, on television, and by having discussions about the look and feel you want your deck to have. Once you understand how you want the deck railings to look, then you need to decide on what materials you will be using. Most people opt for 2X2 wood balusters installed in a vertical pattern spaced about 6" apart. This is the easiest to install, but it's the least dramatic. Consider vinyl coated aluminum balusters for a truly luxurious effect. The next part of deck railing plans that you need to consider is how you will be attaching your balusters to the rails. If you opt for the 2X2s, then your choice of fasteners is limited to nails or screws. However if you upgrade to the more desirable balusters, then you will have other choices in color and style for your attachment options. While every project and homeowner has a budget that they must work within, try to skimp on things other than the deck railings and you will be much happier with your completed project.
