Wood Storage Baskets

If you have a fireplace in your home, you're probably familiar with the age old problem of storing your logs. Most people keep the bulk of their logs outside and bring a few in every few days to place next to the fire so you don't have to keep going outside when it's coldest. Rather than placing your logs directly on the floor or on the outside of the hearth, it's nice to have an attractive wood basket that can keep everything clean and neat.

Varieties of Wood Baskets

Baskets are normally made out of some type of woven wood, but for holding logs its better to go with a basket that's made out of metal. They're heavier and sturdier (good for holding large amounts of heavy logs) and they're also usually a lot more attractive looking. Any good fireplace dealer will carry a whole line of metal wood baskets that can perfectly fit your living room and fireplace design.

A popular, traditional type of wood basket is the curved metal plate with a large handle on top. These baskets are nice because they make it easy to carry wood in from outside, and they also keep sawdust and wood chips from falling on the floor. Curved metal baskets are usually available in different shades of brass, as well as flat or glossy black iron.

If you're looking for something a bit fancier, you can buy yourself a nice wrought-iron basket with intricate hand-carved designs. This type of basket usually matches very nicely with your fireplace tool set, and can really add a nice accent to your fireplace area. Keep in mind when you're buying a wood basket that it's always good to have handles--they make those trips out into the cold winter night a lot easier.
