Residential Flagpoles
Written by Liza Hartung
Many people like to fly flags in front of their homes. You might want a pole sticking off your front porch or grounded in your front lawn. Maybe you want to hang an American flag to support troops. Perhaps you like seasonal decorative flags to add a little flair to your home. Whatever your reason, you likely want a flagpole that is easy to set up and easy to take care of.
For the easy to set up part, I suggest ordering a kit. You can find hundreds of residential flagpole kits online. Before you shop, know that there are a few things that will affect the price. These are the material, height, butt diameter, wall thickness, finish, halyard system and installation type. For materials, you'll find that the cheapest are aluminum and fiberglass. They also require the least amount of maintenance.
However, if you are looking for a traditional feel for your flagpole, you might want to opt for wood. They are decorative and lovely. Be careful, though, if you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain. You will want a good protective coating or to be able to bring it indoors to prevent rotting. Some of the things, such as butt diameter and wall thickness, won't matter as much on residential flagpoles since you'll be getting a kit.
Flagpole Kits
Most kits are made so that you experience a certain ease when installing your flagpole. Most homeowners aren't flagpole experts. They just want their flags waving in the air as soon as possible. Kits are also made so that they are compact, meaning your pole will be in several pieces. Don't worry. All the instructions will be there. If you have questions, the site you ordered from should provide a customer service phone number.
