Us Flag Cases

Flag cases are intended to store flags that have been folded according to the proper technique, and are usually displayed in honor of a veteran who has passed away. While the U.S. Flag Code does not specifically call for the storage of the U.S. flag inside a case, this is a good way to protect the flag and keep it folded neatly. Flag cases are either square or triangular in shape, and a standard one will hold a regulation-size American flag.

Flag Cases Are Important Accessories

Flag cases provide a storage solution as well as a place to keep a burial flag where it can be seen. Most are made of wood with a glass front and come in a variety of species and stains. A flag case can be displayed on any flat surface, or it can be placed on a stand. Most manufacturers offer the option of an engraving plate that can memorialize the deceased veteran.

In order to display the U.S. flag in a case, one must first fold it into the shape of a triangle, symbolic of the tricorn hats worn by colonial soldiers during the Revolutionary War. It is best to have two people available in order to properly fold the flag. When the folding is done properly, the blue field of stars will be showing. The flag can then be fitted into the case and placed on a surface or mounted to the wall for display.

Flag cases serve an important function, and are a useful accompaniment to the American flag. The correct handling of the flag includes care and storage, and the design of flag cases makes it easy to keep the flag clean and dust-free. They also allow one to memorialize a loved one, keeping his or her memory alive as the flag is kept in view.
