Contemporary Chairs

Contemporary chairs are a key ingredient in modern decor. They arguably boast the most radical design innovations of any other type of modern furniture, and for this reason they are typically the piece that stands out the most. When picking out contemporary chairs, you have a world of options to choose from.

Styles of Contemporary Chairs

Some contemporary chairs are more modern than others. If you want something with the sleek, classy modern look but aren't interested in mind-blowing futuristic design, you might want to consider some classical modern designs. Several kinds of contemporary chairs produced by Danish designers almost a half-century ago still make a beautiful, progressive addition to the home or office.

One of the best things about contemporary chairs is their inventive use of structural materials. While some chairs can be purchased that are made of a single piece of formed polymer, you can find others that mix organic and inorganic materials. This allows them to create a futuristic look while retaining a foothold in the past.

A great example of this type of chair would be a chair with a metal frame, a plastic seat, and suede or leather covering. The metal (if it's a lightweight alloy) gives the chair a tremendous amount of support without making it too heavy. The polymer seat allows for a degree of flexibility, so a standard chair still has a slight rocking capability. And the suede covering gives the chair a cozy, natural feel that nicely complements the other elements.
