Willow furniture is a perfect addition to any home in which you are looking to evoke feelings associated with the forest and trees. The pieces are crafted from straight but pliable branches which are hand cut to form each unique piece of willow furniture. Because the chairs, tables, rockers and other items constructed from willow are made by hand, you can be guaranteed that the furniture you select will be one of a kind.

With nearly 170 different kinds of willow in North America alone, there is a wide variety to the look of furniture created from the wood. In addition to standard furniture pieces, there are countless other items that can be made from willow including headboards, umbrella sets, baskets, serving trays, picture frames and wagons.

The whimsical look of willow furniture makes it a great addition to a child's room. Miniature sizes of standard pieces such as a table and chair set can provide the perfect setting for a tea party. A miniature willow rocking chair for each child mixed in with the adult rockers on the porch is also a charming touch to any family home.

The History of Willow

Willow furniture, including stick, log and bentwood, can be traced back to the Egyptian Empire. The pieces from that period include chests made of reed, wig boxes of reed and papyrus, and stick hassocks and chairs. Chinese paintings dating back 1000 years feature rustic stick chairs being used as furniture. The traditional bentwood chair design was brought to North America during the immigration of European settlers. This type of furniture was very popular in the late 1800s and up to the early 1930s. It has come into favor again primarily in the past 15 years.
