Decorating TechniquesWritten by Genevieve Hawkins Decorating techniques can vary with the area of the home and the objective of the work. They can encompass a wide range of topics, including craft projects, home improvement, or construction. That said, most are influenced by the backdrop of our natural surroundings, at least to some degree. Balanced Decorating TechniquesAs our ancestors moved slowly from being cave dwellers into being city dwellers, a transformation took place in our homes. Often, it was the result of the inspiration of the outdoors that created the inside effects that most people have today. Because of this, the main goal of most home improvement should be to create balance between natural and artificial designs. Once this has been achieved, the area is guaranteed to be aesthetically pleasing. All of the decorating ideas we have are in some way inspired from natural effects--the outpouring of a crossing between horizontal and vertical lines. Columns can be thought to represent tree trunks or bunched flowers, carpets the outlay of flat farmland. Whenever you are looking at home improvement ideas, always keep in mind that the sharpest ideas involve a combination of natural and artificial shapes, and that we find effects pretty in nature that break up the sight lines. While walls, furniture, end shelves, and other square shaped furniture pieces rule the day, be sure to alternate them with anthropomorphic shapes. Trees, wall hangings, artwork, or other items that break into your field of sight are best. Finally, make sure to always see the balance between natural and unnatural shapes, and know how to use it properly.
