As we move from a fossil fuel-dependent society to a society based on more renewable and sustainable energy sources, it becomes increasingly difficult to find the information one needs in order to make informed decisions on which alternative energy solutions to adopt. Since renewable energy alternatives are still in their infancy, multiple renewable energy solutions abound. Fortunately, a few good publications and government agencies work to provide you with information on these new energy sources.

Where You Can Find Information

Home Power is a magazine dedicated to home-grown renewable energy sources. This publication is dedicated to providing ideas for energy alternatives to combat our current dependence on fossil fuels. Home Power also has a website that provides much of the same information as the magazine

The United States Department of Energy has set up the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) program to help educate people about renewable energies. Their website at www.eere.energy.gov contains information on biomass, geothermal, hydrogen, hydropower, ocean, solar, and wind energy sources. In addition to this information, the website collects news articles from various news sources so that users can obtain the latest information on these energy sources.

The Renewable Energy Research Laboratory (RERL) at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst is an educational organization dedicated to researching and providing information on renewable energy sources. Their current focus is on the feasibility of large-scale wind power operations in New England, though information on other renewable energy sources can still be found at their website at http://www.ceere.org/rerl/.

This is just a list of three sources of information available to those interested in renewable energies. Obviously, many other resources exist. But people should take steps to ensure that the sources they use for their research provide a fair, balanced viewpoint on the topic at hand. In addition, people would do well to research this subject in a variety of different publications, as information on this new topic can be somewhat scattered and conflicting at times.
