Licensed Contractors
Written by Norene Anderson
Licensed contractors are required to do just about all the work that occurs in any remodeling project. There are basically three types of license issued. There is a Building Contractor license and a General Contractor license. These are licensed to work on a townhouse, villa, or high-rise condominium with housing of four or more units. A Residential Contractor is not allowed to do this kind of work.
There are specialty licensed contractors to do the job-specific work such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, roofing, and just about any job that requires a building permit. It is also necessary to check with local government to see if there are licensure requirements for any other type of specialty. The local city hall or building department can give you all the information on what requirements must be met.
Verify Licensed Contractors
When you use fully and properly licensed contractors, you are taking the first step in having a job done to your satisfaction. There are stringent requirements that must be passed before licensure can occur. The individual must prove their ability in very rigid conditions in order to be licensed. It is a requirement that safeguards the integrity of the remodeling business.
It is easy to verify that licensed contractors are indeed in good standing. All you have to do is ask them for their license number and contact the state office that issues the license. If anyone refuses to give you their license for verification, don't have anything to do with them. No excuse is good enough when you have been scammed. Take the time to get the best and you will enjoy your investment for years to come.
