Lighting controls are popular in both commercial and residential settings. Employers like the security for their employees of scheduled lights in common areas and motion sensitive lights in the parking lot and around the building. Homeowners like the ability to personalize the atmosphere in each room or activate certain lights for safety purposes with a remote control.

Lighting Controls Provide Savings and Security

Increased energy efficiency is a real benefit of using an automated lighting system in any building. Systems can be customized to reduce appliance usage during peak hours when charges are highest. Light fixtures can be upgraded with dimming switches that reduce energy usage and provide lots of freedom for consumers to set a very specific mood.

Large buildings like schools and apartment buildings have long used lighting automation to facilitate access to entryways and stairs. With two-way automation systems, a signal is sent from the remote control to the light unit, and a response signal is sent back to verify the proper action has taken place. Now lighting systems can alert the maintenance department if lights burn out or do not respond.

Remote lighting controls are now widely implemented in newly constructed homes and businesses. There are also plenty of simple and inexpensive devices that can be purchased to go along with standard powerline wiring in existing buildings. These devices can be installed to control individual lights in the home. Whole-house systems can also be designed and installed by professionals with varying degrees of cost and utility.
