X10 Automation

Home automation has long been the domain of high-tech gadget lovers and those that enjoy the process of installing, programming, and possibly repairing these devices. The past few years, however, have seen the emergence of new products based on more advanced technology that promises simpler operation. While true smart homes are not yet a reality for most people, household networking is becoming more streamlined and accessible than ever before.

Home Automation Trends

The domination of X10 components may be dwindling slightly in the face of more reliable home control products. However, just as in other advances in technology, the industry cannot ignore the massive numbers of these systems that already exist. Many companies have responded with products that may be compatible or at least interoperable with the X10 protocol.

Manufacturers know that X10 products have enjoyed so much popularity because they require no costly rewiring. New powerline communications components have been developed that plug right into the standard wiring of a home or office. These devices use the standard wiring to receive signals from a remote control or PC.

Consumers also like the modularity of X10 home automation. Homeowners can easily upgrade their systems whenever they see fit without having to go back and replace existing components. There are now home automation products available that have many of the same benefits and applications as those based on X10, but with less likelihood for performance problems.
