Closet LightingWritten by Beth Hrusch When it comes to closet lighting, it's easy for most people to think that a fixture that is out of sight is not important to the look of the space. For years the bare bulb was the standard lighting in most closets, and it functioned well for most standard closets. Today's closets are, of course, spaces of previously unimaginable size and importance. This being the case, the consideration being given to these large full-service rooms has increased. The Importance of Closet LightingWhen the closet is large and luxurious enough for a homeowner to spend significant time in, then it makes sense that the lighting should be given careful consideration. A well-lit closet makes it much easier to find needed items. It also allows the closet to function as a dressing room, where one can prepare for and end the day. Thus, it often needs the same kinds of lighting that other rooms need. Ambient closet lighting can be achieved with recessed fixtures. These are a good choice in closets both large and small, as they do not take up any space or interfere with the look of the room. Wall and ceiling fixtures such as round frosted-glass domes provide good general and task lighting while remaining unobtrusive. A closet is a good place to use low-voltage fixtures, as they burn cooler and contain lower voltage than standard fixtures. This makes sense in enclosed spaces. A truly functional closet makes life a lot easier and more organized. Closet lighting that assists the homeowner in daily tasks becomes a real asset to this space and makes it more than just a place to store things. With good lighting, a closet can be transformed into one of the biggest assets in the home.
