In order to create the safest possible environment for flying an airplane, you may well want to invest in cockpit lights. Cockpit lights are designed to illuminate the pilot’s lap or reading area, the instrument panel, the entrance to the cabin, and the aisles of the cockpit. Some of the most popular lighting devices include chart and map lights, emergency lights, dome lights, lights that illuminate the oxygen masks, and stowage lights.

No matter if you fly a small, private plane, or you fly for a commercial airline, you need to invest in the proper lighting equipment. While many planes come equipped with instrument lighting devices, pilots still need to have their own personal lighting devices for reading maps, repairing instruments, and executing emergency action plans. You can choose from clip on flashlights, ashtray lights, yoke lights, or hat lights.

Basic Cockpit Lighting

When it comes to investing in cockpit lights, there are several different types of bulbs to choose from. Halogen cockpit lights tend to last for a long time, and they also allow pilots to dim light panels and other light sources. Most of the lights you find in cockpits today are incandescent lights. These lights are typically positioned on swing arms or rotating mounts for versatility of use.

Pilots often use LED lights in the cockpit as well. LED, or light-emitting diodes, are popular because they save energy and they last longer than many other lighting devices. You can find a number of different hands free LED lights for use during emergencies and routine procedures alike.
