Decorative mirrors add dimension to any room in your home. Many people use these mirrors to create focal points throughout their homes as well. You can even add a small lighting fixture to add drama and elegance to the mirrors or picture frames in your home.

Mirrors enlarge a room, and are a great decorative investment. Since the mirror will likely blend with any number of different decorating schemes, you give yourself the freedom to change your décor without having to replace everything. Mirrors come in a a variety of shapes, with round mirrors offering a modern look and beveled mirrors emphasizing a neo-classic style.

One of the most important things to consider when shopping for hardware is the weight of your mirror. The heavier the mirror, the more support you need from your hardware. Home improvement stores provide a wide range of hooks, hangers, clips and mounting devices for mirrors of all weights. When you hang mirrors or glass pictures frames with the wrong hardware, you run the risk of damaging or breaking the glass. This is not only a costly mistake, but if you're superstitious, it's also bad luck.

Mirror, Mirror On the Wall

Nothing leaves a worse first impression than a mirror or a painting hanging crooked on the wall. If you want to avoid common mounting mistakes, it's a good idea to invest in a tape measure and a level. One of the best ways to ensure your mirror hangs evenly is to use two mounting devices. You not only need to measure the distance between these mounting devices, but you also need to make sure they're even using your level.
