Plumber ToolsWritten by Rylee Newton These days plumbers do so much more than simply fix toilets and sinks. Today plumbers repair water systems, install drainage devices, and even work with complicated gas systems in homes and apartments. In order to do their jobs efficiently, plumbers need to carry a wide selection of tools, safety devices and reading materials. Many plumbers travel to their work sites in vans or trucks in order to cart around the tools of their trade. Some of the most common tools used by plumbers every day include: wire cutters, pipe fitters, saws, wrenches, stud finders, and pipe bending machines. Plumbers typically rely on household lighting systems to do their jobs, but they also carry personal lighting devices for illuminating those hard to reach places. Proper Lighting For Installing Household FixturesBesides repairing household systems, plumbers are also hired to install surface fixtures such as refrigerators, dishwashers, showers, sinks and water heaters. These fixtures often run off the main power and water sources for the home. When installing these items, plumbers need to shut down the power for several hours at a time. Shutting down the power in the home can lead to dangerous lighting conditions. Plumbers need to provide their own source of light when installing fixtures. This is especially true if they’re working in dark areas like basements or crawl spaces. Many plumbers use small flashlights or handheld lights in these conditions to read blueprints, building codes, floor plans and installation guidelines.
