People use table lamps in their homes for a number of different reasons. Table lamps are used for so much more than lighting up a room. In fact, people generally rely on table lamps for direct light for working in home offices, reading before bed, and for arts and crafts projects. Table lamps are usually less powerful than ceiling lighting, which makes them ideal for creating a softer look in any room.

If you're looking for a table lamp for shared living spaces such as your family room, den, or living room, it's a good idea to find a lamp that matches the décor of the room. People tend to do a number of different activities in high-traffic rooms, which makes three-way tables lamps ideal. You can use the lower light for watching movies, and turn on the higher light level for reading.

Table Lamps for Work and Play

If you're looking for a lamp for your bedside table, you're probably looking for a smaller lamp. Before I go to bed I like to do a crossword puzzle. I turn off the main light in my bedroom, and rely on the light from my table lamp for reading. I prefer to use a soft light bulb in my lamp because it helps me get in the mood for sleeping. I especially enjoy the convenience of my table lamp because I don't have to get out of bed to turn it off when I'm reading to go to bed.

If you're into arts and crafts, it's a good idea to invest in a table lamp. You can find a number of different lamps that actually clamp onto tables. These lights are often adjustable, which helps when you're trying to manipulate paintbrushes and sewing needles in smaller areas. Proper lighting in your workspace is essential if you want to avoid eyestrain.
