Task LightsWritten by Beth Hrusch One of the most important elements in the functionality of any room is the presence of task lights. Without this type of lighting, it would be difficult to get direct light to specific areas that need it. Task lighting is one of the three kinds of lighting generally found in interior spaces. It is designed to shine light directly onto a horizontal or vertical space for the purpose of assisting in specific tasks that require light. Task Lights Add to a Room's FunctionImagine a space without task lighting. Whether at home or in the office, no space can truly function well unless certain work areas are adequately lit. In the bath, the mirror and vanity areas need light either above or on either side, to shine light directly on the face. Applying makeup and washing up would be a chore without this lighting. At the desk, a well-placed task lamp eliminates eyestrain and makes the job easier. Task lights come in a variety of forms. Wall sconces and bar lights can act as task lighting when placed on either side of a mirror or work area. Table lamps with flexible arms allow one to direct light to any area. Clamp-on fixtures are versatile because they can be attached to almost anything, such as a bed or computer. This kind of portable task lighting is useful in apartment situations where hard wiring is impractical. Some kinds of hanging fixtures also act as task lighting. The importance of task lights to a room will be realized on a daily basis. When light is provided to specific areas where tasks are performed, the jobs become easier and the quality of life improves. With task lighting, in whatever form, one gets a useful tool that helps make everyday activities easier to accomplish.
