Mold Inspectors Qualifications

In order to become a certified mold inspector in most states, a person must take several courses on detection and/or remediation. Opportunities for mold inspectors abound, and they are increasing every day. In fact, some states are considering legislation that will require a mold inspection before the sale of every home. This could mean huge growth for the mold inspection industry.

Qualified mold inspection specialists have taken numerous courses on the detection of mold including how to conduct a visual inspection, how to collect mold samples, and how to interpret the results of laboratory tests. Inspectors who want to work the other side of the mold issue, remediation, have also taken courses on how to minimize the risk of mold infestation and how to deal with mold when it occurs.

Mold Inspection Schools

There are around 30 schools that offer certification in mold inspection in the United States. Some are better than others, and some even offer courses on starting an independent mold inspection business. This type of school often includes such topics as how to develop a business plan and how to market your business. The key element in becoming a mold inspector is learning about moisture intrusion and understanding the basics of building science.

If you're thinking of becoming a mold inspector, you should look for a school that offers a number of training options that suit your specific needs. For example, if you want to get started in the business quickly and do not want to own your own business in the immediate future, you will want to select a school that offers basic certification courses. On the other hand, if you want to be able to deal with mold infestation, you will want a far more comprehensive training option.

You will find dozens of mold inspection schools on the Internet. Before you choose one, be sure to look at their list of courses, what each course costs, where they are located, and the kind of certifications you can earn by attending their classes. Remember that the need for mold inspectors is expected to increase over the next decade and that you will be joining a very lucrative profession.
