Moving Boxes

Boxes are your most important tool for moving. Getting a collection of boxes together that is suitable for your moving needs should be the first item on your checklist. Even before you find a new residence, you can begin planning your move and collecting boxes.

Types of Moving Boxes

Moving boxes come in all shapes and sizes. There are tall wardrobe boxes with a metal rod in them so you can empty your closet right into them, hanging them in the box, and arrive at your new home with your clothes all ready to be placed in your new closet. There are tiny boxes that hold books, magazines, and paperwork. Clothing boxes and boxes designed specifically to hold fragile items like dishes are also available.

You can get boxes from supermarkets and retail store dumpsters, but I don't recommend them. They are often the wrong size and strength for what you need. Visit a local moving center or online provider to find boxes made specifically for relocating households and purchase them there.

When you are done with your moving boxes, you can save them for your next move. You can sell them on Ebay, to your neighbors, or give them away for free to help out someone who is in need of boxes and doesn't have the money for them. If nobody needs or wants them, put them in the recycling bin or take them to your local recycling center.
