Outdoor Bistro Set

An outdoor bistro set is a fashionable way to add sitting and eating areas to a patio, balcony or garden area. The term "bistro" refers to a traditional restaurant or small bar that serves casual drinks and midnight snacks. Outside areas are normally filled with small tables and chairs in a variety of unique turn-of-the-century rose trellis designs.

Thus, a modern Italian or French-inspired outdoor bistro set is a reflection of these quaint and popular hangouts. A normal set includes a single round table and two matching chairs. Originally made of iron, bistro sets can be made out of several materials today, including plastic and cast aluminum.

For outdoor areas, aluminum is perhaps the best as the metal does not rust with age. The aluminum can also be strengthened for any weather with a powdered coating. Some bistro tables come with a pre-cut hole in the center for the optional addition of an umbrella.

What to Include with an Outdoor Bistro Set

In addition to the optional umbrella, many patio and deck designers may add comfortable pillows to the bistro chairs. These can either match or smartly contrast with the base color of the outdoor bistro set. Because most bistro tables also include a small secondary shelf beneath the main table top, many garden designers place a small potted flower or draping vine there to add a splash of color and texture.
