Collectible pewter is not only a great gift idea, it is also a valuable asset to any home. Pewter is a metal alloy made of at least 50 percent tin, the rest a mix of copper, antimony and bismuth. It is exceptionally strong and durable, yet it possesses a deep silvery luster that gives it a unique beauty. House wares and decorative items have been crafted from this metal for thousands of years, a testament to its lasting appeal and utility.

Collectible Pewter Has Lasting Beauty

There are many opportunities to collect pewter. Whether for a special occasion or for oneself, it is easy to find handcrafted pewter pieces to add to a collection that will delight family and friends for years to come. Flea markets, antique shops and online merchants are good sources of fine pewter. Much of the most collectible and valuable pewter is that which came from the workshops of now-defunct pewtersmiths.

Fine handcrafted pewter need not be antique or rare to be collectible, however. There are many high quality pieces made by well-known and respected modern manufacturers. These are future classics, meant to be added to collections and passed down through the generations. A new baby, wedding, anniversary or promotion are excellent opportunities to present a friend or loved one with the gift of collectible pewter.

A pewter cup, goblet or tankard can be engraved or personalized. A pewter tea set or punch bowl set is a highly collectible and unique gift with which to mark a special occasion. Collectible pewter can be ornate or simply styled to reflect individual tastes. When displayed together in a hutch or on a shelf, decorative pewter will glow with the luster possessed only by this unique metal. It will stand the test of time with grace and elegance.
