Gardening Advice

One of the most important things to remember when you're gardening is to protect yourself. You're out in the sun, you're physically straining yourself, and you're dealing with fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides, to name just a few of the chemicals used in gardening. Being properly prepared for a day in the garden will keep you safe from all the hazards of gardening.

A Proper Gardening Wardrobe

Being out in the sun might tempt you to try to get a tan, but when you're gardening, chances are you will be in the sun for a prolonged period of time, so you'll want to stay as covered as you can. A wide brimmed hat is a must to keep the sun off your face, as are long pants, a long sleeved shirt and gloves. These pieces of clothing will also protect your skin from bugs. Most importantly, though, you'll be protected from any kinds of fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides or whatever else you may be using.

Always make sure to take a shower as soon as you're finished treating your lawn or garden. Make sure that the clothes you're wearing when you're working in the garden are washed immediately so no one else handles them and gets residue from the clothes on their skin. It's also a good idea to wash those clothes alone so nothing gets on to any other of your clothes in the wash.

Taking frequent breaks while you're in the garden is an absolute must. It's easy to overwork yourself during intense heat and become overheated. Working early in the morning and taking as many breaks as you need will help to combat heat exhaustion.
