Fish Ponds

If fish ponds are something you are interested in, it's important to be aware of the needs of fish. Although similar in some ways, a fish pond isn't the same as an aquarium. A pond should try as best as possible to simulate nature in creating an eco system where fish can thrive and be healthy.

Building Fish Ponds

The first step is the water. Water treatment chemicals need to be added to the pond to get rid of unwanted substances typically found in tap water like fluoride, chlorine, and lead. The filter and pump are also crucial. A biological filter is best for fish in order to maintain healthy bacterial levels. The pump being used should be manufactured specifically for fish ponds. Not just any pump or filter will do.

The next step is to think about the plants that you will need, or if you will even need plants. If you want a koi pond, it's best to keep plants out of the picture as the koi will eat them all. For goldfish, anacharis grass planted on the bottom of a pond will provide an effective means of sustenance for fish while absorbing much of their waste.

Water lettuce, water hyacinths, and water lilies are also good plants to have in fish ponds. The lettuce and hyacinth will provide food and the water lily will create shelter and assist in absorbing waste. With plants like this around, you should, unless you have koi, never have to actually feed your fish. In fact, it is recommended that you don't feed them. This will just create waste problems and will detract from pond and fish health.

When I first saw this image online, I was taken back by the eelagnt blue and black/gray finish. In awe at the colors and in love with the price, I just had to get it. I was nervous at first, because I didnt think it was going to be that big of an image or was going to be blured when blown up but when I got it in the mail, I was pleseantly suprised at the serene beauty and how large the picture was! I decided the cut the picture into three slates and hang them near each other to make more of an artistic decoration in my house. I am very happy with the buy and looking forward to purchasing other images from them! Absolutely beautiful in person!
