Moving And Storage

Those of you who consistently move from place to place or frequently help friends and family move from place to place understand the horrors of moving and storage. I recall moving my older sister from an apartment in Victoria, TX, to an apartment in Houston, TX. Her apartment in Houston was half the size of her apartment in Victoria, yet she had enough stuff to fill a 20,000 square foot mansion.

We had a moving and storage nightmare on our hands. First of all, my sister neglected actually "packing everything." She had a few boxes packed, but most of her possessions were strewn about the apartment in no particular order. It looked like a tornado had touched down in her living room. Needless to say, I was a little frustrated with my sister on that horrendous day.

Moving and Storage Solutions

Once we packed all of her belongings into the trailer, we had another issue at play. My father and I knew her new apartment in Houston would not have enough space to accommodate her things. Technically, we could fit everything into the new apartment but she wouldn't have enough room to maneuver around. She had three choices--put some things in storage, give some things away, or sell some things.

She decided to keep everything. That's right. She could not bring herself to part with a single item, not one of her three couches, not one of her two blenders, not her unused bookcase, not even her extra coffee table. I wanted to find her a shrink, a good doctor because no human being could possibly have this much extra stuff and not have the wherewithal to get rid of it.

Eventually, she would prove me wrong when she moved into a much larger house and needed every piece of furniture she had been keeping in storage. Anyway, during that move, my father and I realized we had a moving and storage issue. We did not have a storage space reserved because we had no idea how much stuff she had accumulated over the years. We knew we could pack everything into her new apartment, but also knew that we needed to get a sizable chunk of it out of there within a week.

Moving and Storage Made Convenient

Knowing that my sister had an additional room-and-a-half's worth of furniture, we had to identify a moving and storage space that would accommodate our financial, capacity, and time needs. My father and I simply did not have enough time in the week to rent another trailer, come to her new apartment, load up the trailer, and take her belongings to a specific moving and storage location. We started doing our research.

Fortunately, we found a place that drops off a storage container for you to load and picks it up for you. It was the only option we had at the time. The only other alternative was to spend more money and wait until there was a day when everyone involved would be available. In the meantime, my sister would be living in a place most firemen would call a fire hazard.

The moving and storage company we chose took great care of us and really saved us a ton of trouble. I will always deplore moving, so I do as little of it as possible. You can find companies on the Internet that actually enjoy moving and storage. In fact, they have a passion for making your life more convenient. When you find a company with that kind of commitment, you might want to check them out. Moving and storage can be significantly easier and more cost-effective than you think.
