Carpets are among the most beautiful and precious manmade crafts. The combination of color and design can be so wonderful that it ties a whole room together. Valuable carpets should be cared for in a way that will preserve their value and beauty. They need a lot of attention on a regular basis. Frequent maintenance and proper cleaning will help keep carpets from deteriorating or losing their colors.

Guidelines for Carpet Maintenance

There are a few things you will need to keep in mind to prolong the life of your carpets. It is important to identify areas which are subject to heavy foot traffic--for example, your sitting room, where the whole family tends to spend a lot of time. The next step is to locate areas that collect the most outdoor dirt and mud, such as carpets closer to the front door.

There are ways to prevent your carpets from losing their appearances. You could use entry mats and place them in doorways or any place where there is concentrated foot traffic. These will collect dirt and mud before it reaches your valuable carpets. You might prefer to pick colors which don't show dirt easily in areas where there is a lot of foot traffic.

Daily maintenance is very important. Regular daily vacuuming removes over 80 percent of dry dirt. Vacuuming doesn't cost much and it is easy, yet it is very effective at preserving the life of carpets. Bearing in mind the amount of foot traffic, each home has some areas that need vacuuming every day, while others maybe need it once a week.
