Reduce Allergens

Substances that cause an allergic reaction are called allergens or antigens. Harmful and foreign substances cause the body to react in many different ways. Pollen, dust, animals, chemicals and many other things generate allergens. Not all people are affected the same way but most people are allergic to one kind of allergen or another.

These allergens find their way into your body in many ways. Nothing is more successful at finding a way than allergens. You can simply inhale them if you come in contact with pollen or dander, for example. The second way is by eating them with your food. Believe it or not, some medications can carry allergens in them. A third way allergens can come to you is if you touch a plant that has any kind of allergens. They will stick to your hands and either cause an allergic reaction on your skin, or transfer to your food when you eat.

Getting Rid of Allergens

Allergens can also enter your body if they are applied to the skin through the use of contaminated makeup, or if you use artificial nail and hair extensions. Insects sometimes inject allergens under your skin when they bite you. Yellowjackets are just one example. To reduce allergens or get rid of them, you will have to locate the source and remove it. For example, if you have a pet that is making you allergic, you might have to think of giving it away or keeping it outside. A good air system can help remove these allergens from your environment, too. Just as important as having domestic air filters is having a really good vacuum cleaner. A powerful one with a HEPA filter will effectively remove many different types of allergens from your carpets, floors, upholstery, curtains, and even your bed. Vacuuming your mattress regularly and washing your bed covers in pure soap that will not cause allergies can be an important part of your cure.

Failing to take any precautions to get rid of allergens around your house may mean that you end up taking a lot of medication. With time, your allergies could get worse. It is worth changing your carpets or getting rid of them altogether if you think they are the cause of your problem. Furniture may need to be changed as well if you are not able to clean the pieces efficiently.
