Victorian Window Treatments

When you think of Victorian window treatments, you probably picture lots of lace, flowers, and bows. Well, you are pretty much right on target with that concept, as these window treatments tend to be romantic and feminine. However, you have a little wiggle room and can veer slightly to the left or right when choosing window treatments for a Victorian-style home.

For instance, maybe you like the look of woven wood shades, but fear they will not keep with the decor of your home. Well, a quick solution to this dilemma is to have wood shades installed, but perhaps put a lace or floral-patterned fabric valance over the shades to add that Victorian touch. Or you can even put lace panels over the shades and tie them back with a decorative bow or ribbon.

The great thing about window treatments today is that they are so versatile. You don't have to feel like you have to remain within a certain design or pattern to keep in tune with the style of your home. Victorian window treatments can be just about anything you want them to be, as long as you think they look good in your house and on your windows.

It is important that you don't feel boxed in when considering window treatment ideas for your Victorian style home. The important thing is that you find a window dressing that infuses character and charm into the room, without being the focal point. Window treatments should tie in with the rest of the decor to enhance the overall design, without stealing the show, so to speak.
