Foam WallsWritten by Patricia Skinner We have all watched blockbuster movies and found the scenery breathtaking. How many of us realize though that those castle walls and that creepy crypt are all made from foam? Set designers love using this highly versatile modern material to create scenes from times gone by. Aside from being very easy to work with, the resulting sets are so light that they are a breeze to move. Not only that, they're very cheap to produce. Economy is precisely the reason the use of foam walls is catching on for domestic use too. Foam walls for construction come in a number of different types. Structural insulated panels are prefabricated wall panels of plywood sandwiched together by foam. Types of Foam WallsA different type of paneling is sandwiched by concrete to provide structural integrity. These are often used for outside walls of homes and are both strong and thermally effective. All types of foam panels are very effective at insulating living space. Their performance can be regulated by accurate computer controlled production in factories. However, if you don't have foam walls, you can always enhance your home with foam insulation. This is a method of adding thermal protection to your home so that you use less heat in the winter and less air conditioning in the summer. There is more to using polyurethane foam insulation on your walls and roof though. Foam actually increases a home's structural integrity. It will also expand to fill cracks, which can eliminate the need for certain home repairs. If you are hiring a company to install polyurethane foam insulation to your home, make sure you get a reliable operator. Experience is needed to ensure the quality of foam produced by a foam gun. If the gun is dirty or blocked it can severely affect the quality of the foam, so it's important that the foam gun operator knows exactly what he or she is doing.
