Contractor MarketingWritten by Charles Peacock As a professional contractor, one of the hardest things about your profession is finding new jobs. Unless you're lucky enough to live in an area with a tremendous construction boom, you probably find yourself with lag periods between jobs. This can be worrisome, and can be dangerous for your business. Contractor MarketingGetting your name out there is the most important thing for any contractor. Since you probably don't have an actual storefront and can't rely on people just passing by and seeing you, you have to resort to creative marketing techniques to bring in customers. The most basic technique is putting a sign up on any property where you're doing work. Signs and yellow pages ads are always good at bringing in business, but they still might not be enough. One great way to drum up business is to ask happy customers to pass your name on to friends, relatives and neighbors. Many of the most successful contractors I know work exclusively off of referrals--so make sure you keep your customers happy and build trust within your community. These days, a lot of people look online to find contractors, so it's important to make sure you also have a presence on the Internet. Even a simple web page with your name and phone number is better than nothing. If you have a small advertising budget, you can even consider listing with an online contractor marketing service.
