Home Additions

Building an addition is a simple and relatively inexpensive way to make your home more functional and even fun. A lot of people move because they're looking for more space or different features in a house, but in many cases you can get these same things simply by putting on an addition. The great thing about additions is that they're totally scalable and customizable and can make a big difference in your house.

Types of Home Additions

The most common reason for building a home addition is to get more space. Perhaps you have more kids than you originally planned on, or you need some office space for a work-at-home parent. Or maybe you're just looking for an extra room for leisure or gaming.

Home additions can work with pretty much any original house configuration. Since additions usually require tearing down at least one wall, you can put them wherever you have enough empty outside space. If you don't have any more land, you can even add a floor on top of another room or a garage.

One important thing to keep in mind before you build a home addition is gathering the appropriate clearances and permits. Many townships regulate home additions, and you usually have to clear the plans with some sort of authority before construction can begin. The last thing you want to do is build a room that you're going to get fined for--or even worse that you'll have to tear down.
