It gets boring living in the same old house for years and years, doesn't it? It's no wonder home improvement shows are so popular. People love sprucing up their homes, whether it's with major additions or simple decoration changes. If you're looking to update an older home, there are literally thousands of options waiting for you--some expensive and some surprisingly affordable.

Home Improvement Ideas

If your home improvement budget is disappointingly small, don't worry--you can still think big! Repainting the interior or exterior of your house is probably the best way to get a lot of bang for the buck. Depending on the size of your house (and assuming you do the work yourself) you can change the entire look of the place in just a few days for less than a thousand dollars.

If you have a bit more money to work with, the most exciting thing you can do to your house is building an addition. Assuming you already have enough bedrooms and bathrooms, consider building a greenhouse or an office with a lot of windows. One bright room can really transform your house and become the new focal point for your family.

If you don't have enough room to put on an addition, there are lots of changes you can do to the interior of your house. Adding skylights and windows is a nice way to change the look of your existing rooms, for instance. Alternatively, you can knock down walls between rooms, creating larger open spaces that give you the feeling of being in a larger house.
