Advanced Concrete Technology

Concrete technology covers a wide scope of material. Concrete is a very important material in the fields of transportation engineering, structural engineering, mining, and construction. We often do not realize that concrete technology is a whole entire field unto itself, which is comprised of many smaller fields.

For instance, here are just a few of the aspects of concrete technology: analytical procedures, chemical admixtures, chemical analysis, construction methods, deformation, degradation, evaluation, fracture mechanics, maintenance, mineral admixtures, non-destructive concrete testing, rehabilitation, reinforced and mass concrete materials, reinforcing materials, repair, and concrete testing methods. Wow, that is quite a list. More than likely, the average person does not give much thought to concrete, we simply think of it as a mixture that is used in building and construction.

Important Concrete Inspections

Just as the actual concrete material is important, so is the ability to see below the surface of concrete to locate subsurface utilities. It is imperative that surveyors and engineers be able to locate such things as tension cables, rebar, conduit, and electrical wires when doing any type of construction or repair. Without the use of Ground Penetrating Radar, we would not be able to get a detailed view of subsurface areas, and accidents would be much more common.

By finding potentially hazardous materials that are embedded in the concrete below the surface, the risk of injury or accidents are minimal. This is especially important when the public is concerned, as any such accidents could be catastrophic. With the latest and greatest in GPR technology, engineers and builders are better able to do their jobs of planning and zoning and building because they are equipped with the best tools available on the market today.
