Forklift training videos are available from many online training video suppliers. The videos cover a wire variety of safe forklift operation procedures, including new requirements and pedestrian safety. Video-based training for experienced forklift operators is also available.

Forklifts are complicated vehicles with safe operating practices very different from other vehicles. For example, when carrying some loads, driving in reverse is safer than driving forward. Also, when driving an empty forklift, reversing down inclines is safer than driving forward. Rules like these can make beginning driving a complicated process, and require forklift training to be treated with extra care.

Though there is other methods of forklift training available, including online courses and numerous brochures available that detail safe driving techniques, no trainee driver is permitted, under OSHA regulations, to operate a powered industrial vehicle without the direct supervision of a competent trainer. During forklift training, vehicle operation by the trainee is allowed only when the trainee is performing practical exercises.

Successful Completion of Forklift Training

Certification for forklift operation is not only available, but OSHA mandates it. In addition, refresher training is required for certified operators under certain conditions, such as if the operator has been involved in an accident or even a near-miss incident. Also, if a different kind of vehicle is assigned to an operator, he or she must undergo refresher training.
